I have thousands to transfer. Should I go ahead and do it even though my wallet is not synchronized?

Hi, I suppose you have to go to the download folder where you downloaded the wallet and double click on the file. But if you want to be sure, ask one of the developers. See for contact: at the bottom of the page: https://hashers.co.uk/cryptoportal/emc2/
